Medicare DME to resume enrollment activities that have been paused due to the public health emergency (PHE) on October 1, 2021.

Medicare DME to resume enrollment activities that have been paused due to the public health emergency (PHE) on October 1, 2021.

Medicare DME will resume enrollment activities that have been paused due to the public health emergency (PHE) on October 1, 2021. This includes revalidation, the enrollment fee ($599 for 2021), and fingerprint based background checks.

What this means if you are currently enrolled as a Medicare DME supplier (participating or non-participating):
Medicare will resume revalidation efforts that have been paused during the PHE and in a "phased approach" for suppliers that missed their revalidation due date during the PHE. Revalidation letters will be sent in October 2021 with due dates in early 2022.

Suppliers will be notified for revalidation in 2 different ways:
1) The Medicare Revalidation Tool will be updated to display an adjusted revalidation due date in addition to the provider or supplier’s original revalidation due date (pre-PHE). Link to revalidation tool: https://data.cms.gov/revalidation
2)  A letter will be mailed to the correspondence address on file in the Provider Enrollment Chain and Ownership System (PECOS).

What this means if you are not currently enrolled as Medicare DME supplier, but are considering enrolling:
In short - consider completing your enrollment application ASAP! The DME supplier enrollment fee (Currently $599 for 2021) has been waived during the PHE, as well as the fingerprinting based background check requirement. On October 1, 2021 - the application fee and fingerprinting based background check will no longer be waived!
